ERBIL — A group of Islamic State (IS) snipers on Wednesday targeted a convoy of the Iraqi troops outside Tuz Khurmatu in Slahaddin province, north of Baghdad, killing at least one soldier.
Tuz Khurmatu Police Chief Hussein Ali told BasNews that the attack had taken place near Zanjali village of Tuz Khurmatu.
The army soon launched an operation to find the militants, Ali added, without revealing further details about any possible engagements.
Army commanders have been warning repeatedly about the possible resurgence of IS, especially in the areas known as the disputed territories between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
