Iraq Hands Over Iran Remains of 55 Soldiers Killed in 1980-88 War

ERBIL - Iraq handed over on Sunday the remains of at least 55 soldiers who had been killed in the 1980-88 war.

The director of the Shalamcheh border crossing in Basra province, Kazim Yasseri, told reporters that the remains of the Iranian soldiers had recently been found in an area between Iraq and Iran.

Iraq and Iran have previously swapped the remains of hundreds of soldiers from both sides who were killed during the war between the two countries during the 1980s.

Although nearly three decades have already passed since the eight-year war between Iraq and Iran ended, the fate of many soldiers have so far remained unknown.
