University Professor Survives Assassination in Southern Iraq

ERBIL — A university professor survived an assassination attempt on Tuesday in Iraq’s southern province of Dhi Qar.

According to media report, an armed man tried to fire at Professor Sattar al-Atabi in central Nasiriyyah, the provincial capital city of Dhi Qar.

The weapon malfunctioned when the perpetrator attempted to open fire at al-Atabi three time, so he escaped the scene.

Other reports said the man was later arrested at a checkpoint in north of the city and currently is under detention before he will appear before a judge.
