ERBIL — A convoy of vehicles carrying logistic support for the US-led Global Coalition was again targeted with a roadside bomb in the early hours on Friday in southern Iraq.
A security source said the blast took place near Samawa, al-Muthanna province, while the convoy was traveling towards a military base where the US troops are stationed.
No one was hurt in the bombing, the source added, revealing that only minor material damages were reported.
It came only hours after another roadside bomb blast had targeted a different convoy in southern Baghdad.
Washington often blames the Shia militia groups linked to Iran for such attacks.
Qais Khazali, the leader of Asaib Ahl al-Haq militia group, previously said in a statement that targeting the US embassy would have adverse effects to their “resistance” cause; but he noted that hitting the US military convoys would be a legitimate move to protest the US military presence in Iraq.
