ERBIL — The Iranian government on Wednesday approved $150,000 for each family of the people who were killed in the Ukrainian plane shot down in January.
“The cabinet approved the provision of $150,000 or the equivalent in euros as soon as possible to the families and survivors of each of the victims of the Ukrainian plane crash,” IRNA quoted a government statement.
However, Ukraine has rejected the compensation amount, saying it was not acceptable and that it had to be negotiated. Kiev is also expecting those responsible to be brought to justice.
The Iranian army has already accepted the blame, saying it had shot the plane mistakenly at a time when tensions between Iran and the US were at the highest level in the aftermath of Washington’s killing of Iranian top general, Qasem Soleimani.
