Kurdistan President, UN Envoy Discuss Political, Economic, Security Situation in Iraq

ERBIL - Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary- General for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, on Monday in Erbil, where they discussed the security, political, and economic situation in Iraq.

A statement by Hennis-Plasschaert's office said that the pair "discussed the current political, economic & security situation in Iraq & Kurdistan region in particular, with special emphasis on Baghdad-Erbil relations."

The UN envoy argued that a final and comprehensive solution to the disputes between Erbil and Baghdad is the key to stability and coexistence across Iraq, adding that the Iraqi authorities and parties should deal with the situation in a spirit of responsibility and work to resolve the issues between the regional and federal governments in accordance with the constitution, Barzani's office said in a statement.

The political, security, health, and economic conditions in Iraq, the fight against terrorism, as well as, the tasks of the US-led Coalition forces in the country, and the upcoming elections scheduled for June were also discussed during the meeting.
