ERBIL - The United States and Turkey can do "a lot" together on the regional, as well as international, levels, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said.
"We believe that a lot can be done at the regional and international level with the US if the latter respects Turkey’s concerns over the security of its borders and its defensive needs," Erdogan said while addressing the members of his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) via a videoconference on Sunday, as cited by Asharq Al-Awsat.
The Turkish president further added that his country is willing to build an effective cooperation with the US in hopes of resolving all regional and international issues.
Although Joe Biden, who has won the US presidency, is known to oppose to part of Turkey's foreign policy, Turkish Presidential spokesperson, Ibrahim Kalin, said that Washington cannot ignore Ankara due to geopolitical reasons.
"Whether it was the administration of Democratic President Joe Biden or that of Donald Trump, Turkey has two fundamental national security issues regarding its relation with the US," Kalin stressed, according to the report.
