ERBIL - With nearly 40 new fatalities related to COVID-19, the death toll across Iraq has now neared 12,000, the country's Health Ministry reported on Monday.
This came after 38 other individuals lost their lives due to the coronavirus on Monday, the ministry said in a statement, adding that the death toll rose to 11,996.
However, Iraq registered more recoveries than infections for the third day in a row.
While 2,136 people were found positive for COVID-19, 2,202 others were discharged from the hospital after they recovered, the statement added.
The coronavirus tally has now spiked to 537,457, out of which 467,654 patients have recovered.
