ERBIL - The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is investing "heavily" in the future of the autonomous region's agriculture, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said on Sunday.
"Agriculture is key to unlocking our huge economic potential and giving Kurdistanis new income sources, new opportunities and new autonomy," the Kurdish premier wrote on Twitter.
"We are investing heavily in the future of Kurdistan’s agriculture, taking full advantage of our unique geography and climate to grow high quality products on a large scale," he added.
"We are working closely with our great farmers to better understand their needs, expand local markets and facilitate major investments."
In a video attached to his Twitter statement, Barzani noted that his cabinet has been working hard to diversify the Kurdistan Region's revenue sources, and that the KRG has put special emphasis on the agricultural sector.
"Kurdistan has such a rich land that not only can it maintain food security for itself but it can also be the breadbasket for the rest of Iraq and many other regions," he said.
