Salahaddin: Over Ten Policemen Killed, Injured in IS Ambush

ERBIL - As a result of an ambush by the jihadists of the Islamic State (IS) in Salahaddin province on Saturday night, more than 10 Iraqi policemen were either killed or injured, a report said.

Speaking to Shafaq News, the director of Al-Zawiya district of Baiji district, Mohammed Zaidan, pointed out that "an explosive device exploded between the outskirts of Al-Zawiya district and Al-Masak area in Baiji district, targeting a vehicle carrying two civilians."

"The police forces launched a search campaign in the area, following the bombing, and fell into an ISIS ambush," he added using a different acronym for the Islamic State, and noting that clashes erupted between the two sides.

At least three policemen, including the director of Al-Mashak Police, were killed and eight others were wounded, the official explained.

He pointed out that clashes were still ongoing, with the arrival of security reinforcements at the scene.
