ERBIL - At least three brigades of the Iraqi federal police forces were stationed in Sinjar on Friday as part of a recent agreement between Erbil and Baghdad to normalize the situation in the Yezidi majority populated area, the town's mayor said.
Confirming to BasNews, Sinjar Mayor Mahma Khalil pointed out that part of the police forces were stationed in the north and south of Sinjar mountain and some others in Wardiya village and Qahtaniya town.
Based on a recent agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government to normalize the situation in Sinjar, all other armed groups, including the fighters of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), must withdraw from the town.
He further noted that the displaced people would also be able to return to Sinjar once the situation is stabilized and public services are provided.
