SDF Commander Receives US Deputy Special Envoy to Syria

ERBIL - Mazloum Abdi, the commander-in-chief of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), received the US Deputy Special Envoy to Syria, David Brownstein, on Sunday.

The SDF commander said in a statement on his Twitter account that the pair exchanged views on issues related to the future of Syria, without giving further details.

"I am honored to welcome U.S. Deputy Special Envoy Mr. David Brownstein," Abdi wrote on Twitter, adding that "we share a common vision of a future when all Syrians enjoy peace and freedom."

"We look forward to working together alongside with all our Syrian brothers to overcome common challenges and achieve this goal."

The Kurdish fighters, backed by the US-led Coalition forces, played an important role in defeating the Islamic State (IS) in Syria over the past few years.
