ERBIL - Nearly 100 migrants have drowned in the Mediterranean since January, a Kurdish official said on Sunday.
Speaking to BasNews, Ari Jalal, head of Lutka Organization for Refugees, pointed out at least 90 migrants have drowned in the Mediterranean this year while eight boats and vessels have capsized during the same period.
He further noted a number of migrants also lost their lives after their boat wrecked off the coast of Libya in the Mediterranean Sea on Saturday.
"According to the statistics obtained by Lutka organization, over 20,000 migrants have drowned [in the Mediterranean] within the past seven years," Jalal concluded.
