Sulaimaniya to Make Face Masks Mandatory for Drivers

ERBIL - Authorities in Kurdistan Region's Sulaimaniya province will make wearing face masks mandatory for drivers, starting from Friday, October 30.

Speaking to reporters, Sulaimaniya Traffic Director Faraidun Omar pointed out that drivers will be fined 50,000 Iraqi dinars in case they found not wearing face masks while passengers are in the vehicle.

Earlier on Monday, similar measures were taken in the capital Erbil, where authorities enforced to fine people 20,000 Iraqi dinars if they refuse to use masks in public.

The new measures come as the Kurdistan Region is facing a rapid increase in the coronavirus infections.

It has so far seen a total of 74,334 confirmed cases, from which 42,076 patients have already recovered, but 2,406 others lost their lives.
