ERBIL — The outlawed Arab Socialist Baath Party on Monday announced the death of Izzat al-Douri, a notorious senior official from the Saddam Hussein’s era.
The announcement was made in an audio recording via the Facebook account attributed to the Baath Party.
Iraqi officials or international monitoring groups have not yet commented on the report.
Previously on different occasions, Douri was announced killed in military operations by media reports, none of which were ever confirmed officially.
He was the second-most senior figure in Saddam Hussein’s regime and had been one of the most wanted men list by the US.
The last appearance of al-Douri was in a video footage in April 2019, as he conveyed a message to Kuwait apologizing for the Iraqi invasion in 1990.
