ERBIL — Protesters returned to the streets in the Iraqi capital city to mark the first anniversary of the first anti-government demonstrations and raise their voice against unfulfilled promises by the government.
Thousands of protesters marched toward Baghdad’s Tahrir Square, calling for basic services, employment opportunities, and an end to corruption.
While similar protesters were reportedly held in the mainly Shia-populated southern provinces, some young people had traveled to Baghdad for participation in the protests.
Media reports said security forces had prevented some of them from entering the capital city.
