ERBIL — Iraqi federal police killed a militant of the Islamic State (IS) on Tuesday while he was planting a bomb to target a military convoy in south of Kirkuk province.
The militant was spotted by the police forces on a road connecting Kirkuk and Salahaddin province, police said in a statement. He was working on a bomb to be later detonated during a military commander’s visit that was planned for the day.
The militant engaged the police forces and he was killed before he could detonate the explosives he was carrying.
