Top Kurdish Officials Condemn Abduction and Killing of 12 Civilians in Salahaddin

ERBIL — Kurdish prominent leader and the president of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Masoud Barzani and Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani have “strongly” condemned the abduction and killing of 12 civilians in Salahaddin’s Balad district, north of Baghdad.

On Saturday, a group of unidentified armed men kidnapped 12 young men from Farhatiyah subdistrict of Balad in Salahaddin province. Eight bodies were found later while the fate of the remaining four is unknown.

Masoud Barzani, the former president of the Kurdistan Region, denounced the atrocity and called on the political forces to work with the government to find the perpetrators and hold them accountable.

Kurdistan Region President also issued a statement in which he urges immediate actions to bring those behind the attack to justice while working to prevent such tragedies in the future.

No group or organization has yet claimed responsibility for the abduction and killing of the 12 civilians. However, Asaib Ahl al-Haq, a Shia militia group operating under the umbrella of Iran-backed Hashd al-Shaabi is accused of having a role.
