KRG Says Burning KDP Office and Kurdistan Flag in Baghdad “Not Acceptable”

ERBIL — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has strongly denounced Saturday’s attack by Hashd al-Shaabi supporters on the representation office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Baghdad where they also burned the Kurdistan flag.

“Attacks or violations by any individual or group against the symbols of the Kurdistan Region and its political parties are not acceptable,” the KRG said in a statement in which it called on the federal government of Iraq to take the necessary actions for protecting the diplomatic missions and political representation offices in Baghdad.

“The Kurdistan Regional Government reserves its right to take all legal measures to protect its citizens and the achievements,” the statement added.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani issued a separate statement after the incident, saying he had discussed the attack by the outlaw groups with his Iraqi counterpart Mustafa al-Kadhimi, and urged him to hold the perpetrators accountable.
