ERBIL - Special forces, affiliated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), have reportedly tortured a prisoner to death, a family member revealed on Wednesday.
Rishwan Najmadin Raza, from Qalladza district of Sulaimaniya province, had lately gone missing for awhile until his family found out he was jailed by the PUK's counter-terrorism forces.
Raza, who came back to Kurdistan in 2014 and joined the Peshmerga forces as a volunteer to fight the Islamic State (IS), had been accused of spying for the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
After continuous efforts, his family last week was allowed to see Raza, who was found to be in "a bad health condition".
The family was informed of the prisoner's death on Wednesday, after which, Sheikh Rashid Najmadin, Raza's brother, said in a Facebook post that his sibling was "assassinated" by the PUK-affiliated forces in Sulaimaniya.
