Kurdistan President Extends Condolences on Death of Yezidi Spiritual Leader

ERBIL - Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has extended condolences on the death of Yezidi spiritual leader Baba Sheikh Khurto Hajji Ismail.

The Kurdish president sent condolences to the family of Baba Sheikh as well as all Yezidi "sisters and brothers" in Kurdistan Region and beyond the globe, according to a statement by Barzani's office.

Baba Sheikh was a prominent Yezidi leader who was respected by all sides.

He was commended by Kurdish prominent leader and former President of the Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, for his efforts to preserve peaceful coexistence in the region.

After suffering from a kidney disease, Baba Sheikh was admitted to a hospital in Duhok province before he was moved to the capital Erbil and passed away on Thursday at the age of 87.
