ERBIL - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has expressed condolences over the death of Yezidi spiritual leader Baba Sheikh Khurto Hajji Ismail who passed away on Thursday.
Sheikh Baba had been moved into the intensive care unit earlier this week in Kurdistan Region's Duhok province before he was moved to another hospital in the capital Erbil, where he passed away at the age of 87.
"I join the Yazidi people in Kurdistan and the world in mourning the passing of their spiritual leader Baba Sheikh," PM Barzani wrote on Twitter.
"His teachings of forgiveness and co-existence were crucial to the recovery of the Yazidi community, women especially, from one of its cruellest chapters."
The Yezidi spiritual leader suffered from an illness related to kidneys, his brother explained to BasNews previously.
