US Says Won't Tolerate Threats to Its Personnel in Iraq

ERBIL - The United States has made it clear that it would not tolerate any threats to the US personnel in Iraq, blaming pro-Iran militia groups for recent attacks on the US targets in the country.

Reuters cited David Schenker, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, as warning that the US will not hesitate to protect its people in Iraq.

He made the comments when he was asked about US’ threats to close down its embassy in Baghdad.

"We can’t tolerate the threats to our people, our men and women serving abroad," Schenker said, declining to comment on the issue as he believes it is Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s "private diplomatic conversations."
