Turkey Arrests HDP’s Kars Co-mayor

ERBIL — Turkish security forces on Thursday, October 1st, arrested Kars Co-mayor Şevin Alaca from the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP).

Alaca was taken into custody after security forces raided her home in the early hours on Thursday over alleged “membership in an illegal organization”.

During the same operation, the Turkish forces also arrested HDP Provincial Co-chair Cengiz Anlı and 19 other members of the Kurdish political party.

Turkey has so far dismissed and arrested several dozens of elected co-mayors of the Kurdish cities for alleged links to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), including Selahattin Demirtas, the former co-chair of the HDP.
