PM Barzani Discusses Erbil-Baghdad Coordination against IS in Meeting with Coalition Commander

ERBIL — Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of Kurdistan Region received on Tuesday a delegation from the Global Coalition to Defeat the Islamic State (IS), led by Deputy Commander Major General Kevin Copsey, to discuss the latest developments in the region, including closer coordinations between Erbil and Baghdad against terrorism.

PM Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region's commitment to peace and security in the region and highlighted the importance of prolonged international support to the fight against Islamic State, his office said in a press release.

"Both sides discussed paths for further cooperation, including ongoing training for Peshmerga forces against the threat of ISIS,” it added.

They also agreed that terrorism still poses a threat to Iraq as well as the broader region, with the Kurdish premier stressing on "continued and enhanced coordination between Peshmerga and Iraqi security forces remains a critical factor to succeed against the group."
