ERBIL - Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on Saturday received Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, in Baghdad to discuss the latest political developments in the country.
During the meeting, Kadhimi and Hennis-Plasschaert exchanged views on the upcoming Iraqi elections scheduled for next June, a statement by the UNAMI explained.
"Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, was received today in Baghdad by Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi," reads the press release.
The pair additionally shed light on the affairs of the IDPs, who have been hosted by the Kurdistan Region since 2014 when the Islamic State (IS) attacked Iraq and overran a vast area in the country.
"They discussed cooperation on early elections & the file of Internally Displaced Persons."
Kadhimi announced June 6, 2021 for early elections, a date which also enjoys the support of Iraq’s Shia Grant Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.
