Kurdish Political Activist on Hunger Strike, in Critical Condition at Tehran Prison

ERBIL — Iranian Kurdish political activist, Mozhgan Kavoosi, has been transferred to a hospital after she went on a hunger strike over two weeks ago at Tehran’s Evin Prison.

Kavoosi is spending her 76 month prison sentence over alleged “membership in a Kurdish opposition party, threatening the national security, and propaganda against the state”.

She went on a hunger strike on September 1st to protest the prevention of family visits imposed on her by the prison authorities, according to sources speaking to Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.

While already suffering from health issues and with limited access to medical services, Kavoosi continued her hunger strike until September 16, before she was rushed to Taleqani Hospital outside the prison.
