ERBIL — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received the Unites States Ambassador to Iraq Matthew Tueller and his accompanying delegation in Erbil on Tuesday to discuss the latest political and security developments as well as the bilateral ties between Erbil and Washington.
During the meeting, Barzani thanked the United States for its recent military aid to the Kurdistan Region, which was delivered to the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Peshmerga as part of the US military assistance to Iraq in the fight against terrorism and IS.
They also exchanged views on the security and political situation in Iraq, and the Iraq – US strategic dialogue. The war against the IS remnants and the prolonged disputes between Erbil and Baghdad were also discussed among other topics.
On his part, the US Ambassador commended the atmosphere of peaceful coexistence and tolerance among communities in the Kurdistan Region and highlighted Kurdistan Region’s important role in maintaining stability in the wider region. Ambassador Tueller also reaffirmed the support of the United States to a strong Kurdistan Region, according to a press release.
The United States sent $250 million worth of military assistance to the Peshmerga ministry on Tuesday to show its commitment to supporting the Peshmerga forces in the ongoing battle against terrorism.
