ERBIL — Islamic State (IS) militants carried out an attack on a federal police checkpoint near Tuz Khurmatu district of Diyala province and injured one Kurdish policeman.
A local police source told BasNews that the attack, in which mainly snipers were used, had targeted the police forces in Yangija village.
There was no report of further engagements with the attacking jihadists, or if there was any casualties among the extremists.
Yangija village falls in the area commonly know as the disputed Kurdish territories, and it is now under the control of the Iraqi forces. The village was captured by IS in 2014, and it was liberated a month later by the Peshmerga forces.
