ERBIL — A group of people allegedly staging a demonstration in several districts in Sulaymaniyah and Halabja provinces on Saturday night, burned the government offices and public properties.
Head of Halabja Municipality Kwestan Akram said a group of people, claiming to be protesters, had stormed her office in the city of Halabja and set fire to the building, burning a massive pile of official municipality documents.
Meanwhile, BasNews has learned that the people then moved to the mayor’s office and directorate of traffic police in the city and set them alight too, causing massive damages.
Elsewhere in Kalar, chief of police said protesters had injured nine policemen after throwing stones without being provoked.
Officials confirmed that government buildings, including the mayor’s office, were damaged after a few groups of people burned them.
In Halabja, the local representative office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) was also attack. Party representatives told BasNews that several armed people among the protesters had opened fired at the office.
There were no casualties in the shooting outside KDP’s local office in Halabja.
