PKK Confirms Its Commander Killed in Turkish Airstrike

ERBIL — The Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) has confirmed that one of its regional commanders was killed a the Turkish drone strike last Tuesday in Kurdistan Region’s Sidakan area.

The commander was identified in an official statement as “Agid Garzani, who was responsible for Khwakurk region in the mountainous border areas of Kurdistan Region.

Garzani was killed in a Turkish airstrike that targeted his meeting with two high-ranking Iraqi border guards commanders to coordinate the military presence of the sides in the troubled region.

Iraq has already condemned the killing of its commanders, as the result of which it canceled an official visit by the Turkish defense minister to Baghdad, and summoned the Turkish ambassador to convert protest.
