ERBIL — Iraq warplanes on Monday carried out multiple airstrikes on hideouts of Islamic State (IS) jihadists in north of Kirkuk province.
The airstrikes came as part of an operation by the Iraqi forces to clear the area from IS sleeper cells and hiding militants, said a spokesperson for Dibis Mayor.
“At least seven hideouts used by IS militants were completely destroyed by the strikes,” the spokesperson said.
BasNews has learned that the airstrikes were mainly focused on the surroundings of Muzayariya, Rabiza, and Asriya villages.
Earlier on Sunday, the Iraqi army announced an operation to clear the desert areas located between the provinces of Nineveh, Salahaddin, and Anbar.
