ERBIL - Iraq's new PM Mustafa al-Kadhimi on Tuesday received the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, to discuss the new cabinet, a statement by UNAMI said.
The statement also said that Hennis-Plasschaert congratulated Kadhimi on his appointment as the country's premier, expressing her support to the new government.
"They discussed the current political, economic and health situation in the country," reads the statement.
"SRSG Hennis-Plasschaert congratulated PM Al-Kadhimi on the formation of his government, expressed hope for the speedy completion of the remaining posts, and underlined UNAMI’s support and readiness to work closely with the new government for the benefit of Iraq and its people."
After months of a political deadlock, the Iraqi parliament last week on Wednesday voted on Kadhimi's proposed cabinet with a few posts yet to be filled due to disputes among the political factions.
