ERBIL — Islamic State (IS) jihadists early morning on Tuesday carried out multiple attacks on different targets in Diyala and Kirkuk provinces, killing and wounding several Iraqi security forces.
IS has stepped up attacks on Iraqi forces in the past few days, causing serious concerns about the group’s possible comeback while Iraq is already struggling with health and political crises.
Diyala police spokesperson Nihad Mohammed told BasNews that the IS jihadists had opened fire at a unit of the army in Bohrouz subdistrict of Daquq, Diyala province, injuring at least one soldier.
“Then, reinforcement was sent to the area and was targeted by a roadside bomb, killing one soldier and injuring three,” Mohammed added.
Elsewhere in Birmahdi village near Hawija, Kirkuk province, the IS snipers targeted the Iraqi forces and killed at least two personnel.
