ERBIL — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) opened the first special hospital for the victims of the disastrous chemical bombardment of Halabja.
KRG Health Minister Rekawt Hama Rashid said during the opening ceremony on Thursday that a budget of over $12 million was allocated to meet the medical needs of those suffering from the injuries of the chemical bombardment.
There are 275 medical staff employed for the hospital who will receive special trainings on devices next week, head of Halabja department of health told BasNews.
In 1988, on 16th March, the former regime of Baath bombarded Halabja with chemical weapons. It killed nearly 5,000 civilians and injured more than 10,000.
