ERBIL — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has stepped up its measures to encounter and eradicate the illegal business of unlicensed medicine in the region.
According to Ahmed Anwar, head of Kurdistan Region’s Board of Integrity, the office is working seriously on the issue in cooperation with Kurdistan Region’s directorate of security.
Ahmed said that six separate cases related to the illegal business of drug imports are now under investigation while some others have already been referred to the court for legal procedures.
The official revealed that, in most of the cases, the illegal drugs are being smuggled into the Kurdistan Region from other central and southern provinces of Iraq.
Erbil is struggling with the widespread unlicensed drugs across the region. Experts have warned against serious consequences to the health of the people if the trend is not eradicated by the government.
