ERBIL — German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen has called for an extension of her country’s military mission to Iraq, Afghanistan and Mali for one more year.
She said that the issue will be discussed with all the parliamentary parties in the upcoming weeks, as reported by DW.
The current mandates are due to expire before the end of January.
"I would welcome extending the deployment early next year — and not just for three months but once again in the typical pattern of one year,” von der Leyen said in an interview with German media group Funke Mediengruppe.
"In all three countries we stand with our partners in the fight against terror.”
