ERBIL — The United Kingdom will “respond appropriately” if the use of chemical weapons in Syria is confirmed, said UK Prime Minister Theresa May.
"We condemn all use of chemical weapons, we are in close contact with the United States, we are monitoring the situation closely,” May told the parliament on Wednesday.
“And if any use of chemical weapons is confirmed we'll respond appropriately,” she warned.
The remarks followed a statement by the US State Department which said earlier the day that there were signs of Syrian regime’s involvement in chemical attacks, including a recent one on Sunday in northwest Syria.
“We are still gathering information on this incident, but we repeat our warning that if the Assad regime uses chemical weapons, the United States and our allies will respond quickly and appropriately,” State Department said.
