ERBIL — Former Co-chair of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), Salih Muslim, criticised the West for their indifference towards the Turkish assault on Afrin, and continuing their arm supplies to Ankara.
“Turkey sheds our blood with the weapons you supply,” Muslim said, adding that they were not expecting the Western countries to fight against Turkey but asking them to act in accordance with the international law.
“We don’t tell the West to fight Turkey, or to not trade with them. But Turkey is spilling our blood with the weapons you provide” he said.
There are UN resolutions and rules of international law, he pointed out. “They can’t use these weapons to massacre civilians. The UN Security Council says so. So, aren’t the people dying in Afrin civilians? People in other places are, but not the Kurds who lose their lives in Afrin? Why is there silence about this? You have a vision for democracy and institutions to that end. Turkey is killing civilians, why don’t you do something?”
Since January 20th, the Turkish army and its backed Free Syrian Army(FSA) have launched a massive military operation, dubbed “Olive Branch”, against the Syrian Kurdish forces in Afrin.
