ERBIL — The US-led coalition carried out 78 airstrikes consisting of 91 engagements against the so-called Islamic State (IS) in both Syria and Iraq, the Jointly Task Forces said on Monday.
The Coalition conducted 34 airstrikes near the Syrian city of Raqqa, which angaged eight IS tactical units, destroyed 21 fighting positions of the group, 16 vehicles, four heavy machinery guns, two command and control nodes, a logistics node and engineering equipment, the statement said.
Additional airstrikes were carried out during the weekend, near seven other Syrian towns, including Abu Kamal and Deir ez-Zor, destroying IS headquarters, VBIED facilities and engaging IS tactical units, Sputnik reported.
Meanwhile, in Iraq the US-led coalition conducted 14 airstrikes near seven Iraqi cities, including Hawija and Rawa in Kirkuk province. The airstrikes engaged several IS tactical units, destroyed command and control nodes, vehicles, an explosives factory, training camps, and two weapon caches.
The US-led coalition, including around 70 nations, continues supporting the fight against the IS militants in both Syria and Iraq.
