QAMISHLO — The Syrian Kurdish National Council (ENKS) organized a sit-in on Wednesday in front of the United Nations Office in Qamishlo to denounce the practices of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), the Syrian wing of PKK, against the opposition parties under ENKS umbrella.
During the sit-in, the ENKS vice-president delivered a speech, stressing that ENKS will pursue its national project despite all the attempts to obstruct it and the PYD practices against the Kurdish people and the parties in Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan).
The demonstrators raised the flags of Kurdistan, and banners decrying the political arrests and the closure of the ENKS offices by the PYD, calling for immediate release for the detainees.
However, dozens of PYD-affiliated youth gathered near the sit-in, shouting insulting slogans against the protesters, the participants to the protest told BasNews.
PYD has been cracking down on ENKS, a political umbrella consisting of a group of parties in Rojava which are considered as rivals by PYD for having different political views from those of PKK.
The ruling party in Rojava has detained many political figures and closed down all the ENKS headquarters and offices in the region.
