ERBIL — The security forces of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), the Syrian wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), arrested on Saturday a local official of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria (KDP-S) in Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan).
A local official of the Syrian Kurdish National Council (ENKS) revealed to BasNews that PYD armed men arrested Junaid Said Majeed, a member of KDP-S local council in Kirki Laki city near Qamishlo in Rojava.
The PKK-affiliated force arrested Majeed in Tel Dar village and took him to an unknown location, said the ENKS official who preferred to remain anonymous.
“The aim behind the arrest campaign led by PKK is to limit the activities of ENKS leaders and cadres,” he said.
ENKS is a political umbrella, consisting of a number of parties considered as rivals by PYD for having different political views from those of PKK.
The PKK-affiliated gunmen have thus far detained a large number of members and leaders of ENKS in Rojava region, ruled by PYD, a PKK extension.
