ERBIL — Turkish police arrested a pro-kurdish lawmaker from the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) on Wednesday.
Local media reported that MP Lezgin Botan was detained at the airport in the eastern province of Van before he could fly to Ankara. He is accused of supporting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Botan was stripped of immunity at the request of the public prosecutor, however, he had already once denied to appear in court.
The arrest was made as dozens of HDP lawmakers, including the party’s co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş, have already been put behind the bars on similar charges.
