ERBIL— Saadet Becerikli, a Kurdish lawmaker from the People's Democratic Party (HDP), was arrested on Saturday by Turkish police in Batman Airport.
Turkish media reported that Becerikli was taken to an unknown destination after landing in the airport in Batman for suspected links with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
Becerikli was stripped off her parliamentary immunity along with nine other HDP MPs who have been charged with supporting the PKK, which Turkey has outlawed as a "terrorist" organization.
According to the reports in the coming few hours it will become clear if the Kurdish lawmaker will be detained or released on bail.
Both HDP co-leaders, Selehettin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag, have also have also been detained as part of the government's crack down on Kurdish opposition, a move which has been criticized strongly by human rights and political centers across Europe.
