KIRKUK — The Iranian-backed militias of Hashd al-Shaabi once again came under an armed attack in central Kirkuk where they overrun and took control back in October last year.
“Hashd al-Shaabi militias were attacked tonight in Chiman district, and we still don’t know who attacked them,” said Idris Raf’at, an official from Kirkuk Directorate of Security.
However, he noted that it is likely that the attackers are local people of the city as they cannot any longer tolerate Hashd al-Shaabi’s atrocities in Kirkuk.
Gunshots were also heard in Panja Ali neighbourhood of Kirkuk, he said.
Another source confirmed to BasNews that the gunshots were directed at a checkpoint of the Iraqi federal police. He also claimed that RPG rounds were fired during the fire exchange.
