KIRKUK — An armed assailant overnight on Sunday opened fire at two Kurdish young men in central Kirkuk and killed the two immediately, a local security source said.
Chiya Hiwa Salih and Muzaffar Bahram Sa’id were gunned down in Hai Adan district, according to Afrasyab Kamil, a spokesperson for Kirkuk Directorate of Police.
“According to the initial findings, the victims and the assailant previously had conflicts,” he told BasNews.
The police has issued an arrest warrant for the fugitive murderer, but he is yet to be detained.
Since the military incursion of Kirkuk by Iranian-backed Hashd al-Shaabi militias last October, the security situation in the Kurdish city is facing great challenges.
Assassinations, thieveries, armed conflicts and arbitrary arrests are happening on a daily basis.
