SULAYMANIYAH — The owner of Nalia group of companies and Nalia Radio and Television (NRT) was detained by security forces in Sulaymaniyah for allegedly promoting violent protests in the province.
Kurdistan 24 said Shaswar Abdulwahid was taken into custody at his arrival at Sulaymaniyah International Airport on Tuesday.
He was issued an arrest warrant as he had publicly supported the recent violent protests in different cities of Sulaymaniyah province.
Since Monday angry protestors have staged demonstrations to seek the delayed salaries and better public services. However, the protests turned violent later as hundreds of people started setting fire to government buildings and political branch offices of political parties.
Abdulwahid’s news channel NRT was on the same day shut down for promoting violence against the government.
