ERBIL — The Iraqi airforce overnight on Wednesday used attack helicopters to bombard Kurdish villages on the suburb of Tuz Khurmatu, south of Kirkuk.
The bombardment was carried out soon after midnight on Palkana village, said Mohammad Tofiq, head of media department at the local administration of Tuz Khurmatu.
He told BasNews that violations agains local Kurdish civilians continue at the hand of Shi’ite militias of Hashd al-Shaabi who are controlled and led by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“It was only last night when the personal property of Kurdish resident of Komari neighbourhood, identified as Karim Ismail Aziz, was detonated,” Tofiq stated.
On 16th October, the Iraqi forces together with the Iranian-backed militias attacked the Kurdish forces in Kirkuk, Tuz Khurmatu and other territories disputed between Erbil and Baghdad.
The attack, followed by widespread human rights abuses, resulted in a large-scale displacement of Kurds from these areas. The UN and international community have already expressed concern over the abuses by Hashd al-Shaabi.
