ERBIL — Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani is invited to Germany for talks over the prolonged political deadlock between Erbil and Baghdad, a source said.
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) senior member, Aras Hasso Mirkhan told BasNews that the international community is now engaged in efforts to pressure Baghdad to ease the tensions with Erbil.
PM Barzani, according to Mirkhan, has received an invitation from Berlin, but the trip timetable is yet to be set.
BasNews previously reported premier’s plan to visit Turkey. He is said to be meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Barzani recently visited Paris where he met with President Emmanuel Macron to talk about the Erbil-Baghdad disputes which escalated following Iraqi forces’ invasion of Kirkuk and other Kurdish disputed territories last October.
