ERBIL — Kurdistan leader Masoud Barzani on Monday praised the role of Kurdish women during decades of national struggle, hoping that they continue standing by the cause and supporting the Peshmerga forces.
Barzani made the remarks in a statement to mark the 65th anniversary of Kurdistan Women Union.
“Kurdistan Women Union played a significant and decisive role throughout different stages of the Kurdish struggle, yet they bore the greatest pains,” reads the statement.
Barzani called on the union to help increase awareness among the women of Kurdistan to fight alongside men for the rights of their people.
He also urged them to spare no effort in fighting domestic violence against women, creating job opportunities for women on an equal footing with men.
